Doing Research Midnight in ROmania

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DoReMi-RO (Doing Research Midnight in ROmania)

Reporting period: 2020-07-01 to 2021-02-28

15 of the most prestigious universities and research institutions, distributed throughout the entire Romanian territory, covering the main educational cities (Bucharest, Constanta, Cluj, Craiova, Timisoara, Iasi, Sibiu, Suceava) have joined forces to engage the Romanian public in a nation-wide exercise of changing the perception about the current research and innovation activity in which these institutions are involved, permanently connected as in a grid with similar institutions from all over the world, and especially with the European ones.
Covering various topics in the field of science, highlighting the importance of research in the technological evolution, the EU-funded DoReMi-RO Night project aims to increase knowledge on researchers’ work through minds-on experiments and to create an understanding of the impact of scientific results on citizen's daily life.
Constrained by the pandemic evolution of Covid-19, the public outreach activities carried out in online format further underlined the need to raise awareness of the research. More than ever, the public understood both the need to develop a vaccine through research and to ensure its distribution in the European Community.
Awareness-raising activities on the importance of promoting research were coordinated online through web and social media platforms. Ways of interacting with the public were designed to attract and encourage young people to embrace a professional career in research. There was also a large audience for the economically active population between 25 and 45 years. Certainly, parents are directly interested in ensuring the future of society through an adequate education of their children.

Overall number of persons reached, in the context of all dissemination and communication activities: 396 000
Overall number of attendees: 13 000 (views & likes)
Anything bad brings something good: the online version has entered isolated villages where the public has limited access to scientific or cultural information. Moreover, the DoReMi-RO event was connected to the European Researchers' Night network which includes similar events held in cross-border European countries.
The economy experienced a deep recession this year, many companies have substantially reduced their activities and profits. This causality will drive the business environment to seek solutions for a sustainable economy for both us and the environment, based on green technologies applied to industry, agriculture and transport, leading to a neutral climate in the EU. Certainly, this goal can only be achieved through the collaboration of the business environment with the academic and research community and through the implementation of strategic policies at European level.
