Project description
The 2020 Researchers’ Night in Poznan
Once a year, the Researchers’ Night takes place all over Europe to showcase scientific activities among the general public. In 2020, the city of Poznan (Poland) will focus on ecology and how to care for the planet on a daily basis through the EU-funded NIGHTFOREARTH project. More specifically, the project will promote ecological solar vehicles, the Sky Lab observatory (which enables observation of space debris), eco-friendly supercomputers, green cities and ecological packaging. NIGHTFOREARTH will build on the experience from the previous events organised the last 13 years, with two new partners which will help focusing on new scientific fields.
Objective
During Researchers' Night in 2020 in Poznan our researchers will teach us how to care for our planet on a daily basis. Nowadays, ecological issues have become extremely significant. One can see a huge need to educate in ecology issues, but also a great interest of young people in this subject is observed. During the event, we will show how each field of science (technical and engineering, humanities, natural sciences, health sciences) can support ecology. See how scientists are building ecological solar vehicles, visit Sky Lab observatory, which enables observation of space debris, check how eco-friendly supercomputers work, discover what a green city of the future should look like, learn how to create ecological packaging. You will find that scientists are ordinary people and their work is really fascinating.
The NIGHTFOREARTH builts on the expierence from the previous ones realised within last 13 years, with 2 new partners on board and new science fields invoved. Topics at individual Partners were selected in terms of the main message of the project which focuses on showing how we can care for the Earth in our every-day -life. Environmentally friendly solutions will be also adapted in the project's promotion and management.
During each subsequent Reserachers' Night, public interest has been growing successive and new generations have become interested in science and scientists. This year's project aims to strengthen previous ones and shed light on new aspects of science. We want to spread the idea to the public at large, but specially to the young people that the work of scientists is a noble mission to save the planet, and it is worth learning from them. And all this thanks to science presented in a direct playful way (edutainment).
We want Researchers' Night in 2020 to be a great feast of science, family fun (edutainment), as well as an attractive alternative to traditional Friday evenings activities.
