Database on hydrogeochemical properties of geothermal reservoirs in the Netherlands (opens in new window)

Geohydrochemical processes are often responsible for decreasing production or injection rates. Clogging processes can be divided into (1) physical, (2) chemical, and (3) biological processes and be studied by analysing fluid and solid samples as well as operational data. Earlier results show that the spatially correlating nature of permeable structures is responsible for exponentially decreasing injectivity because few highly permeable zones clog rapidly by intruded particles. In this project, hydrogeochemical processes and their interaction will be monitored and investigated in real time in the DAPwell. Monitoring will take place during production and cold injection in the reservoir as well as in the surface infrastructure. Concepts will be developed to avoid hydrogeochemical processes negatively affecting efficient long-term operation. Eventually, data from the DAPwell will be compared to different geothermal reservoirs in the Netherlands in cooperation with the industry partner Hydreco Geomec, who has access to several sites.A hydrogeochemical database for fluid composition in the DAP well reservoir compared to other typical geothermal reservoirs in the Netherlands. - Techniques to identify and predict hydrogeochemical processes (precipitation, dissolution, corrosion, bioactivity) affecting the efficiency of the geothermal system. - Reservoir scale thermo-hydraulic-geochemical model using PHREEQC and/or Reaktoro (Reaktoro.org)
