Based on the 2nd progress report to the EU, a public summary covering the project activites in the 2nd period will be made available for dissemination purposes.
Opportunities to integrate INITIATE with other industrial symbiotic systems (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)The report covers the evaluation of a broader symbiotic system, where the integration of alternative H2 and CO2 conversion routes and local communities is assessed on energy and environmental KPI’s (GHG, raw material efficiency and primary energy consumption). Different uses of BFG and BOFG next to urea production are assessed, including the generation of fuels for energy storage so to integrate with the local electricity grid and industrial infrastructures. Use of H2 from other variable sources is also reported. The capability of the INITIATE symbiotic system to fulfill both energy storage and Urea demand flexibly is reported, as well as time dependent forecast of renewable power production and demand, historical steel plant data and relevant dynamic simulation results.Amendment: This deliverable is delayed by 2 months due to a late start.
Communication and Dissemination Plan (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)The communication and dissemination plan set the framework for the intended communication and dissemination activities to be undertaken by the whole consortium It includes the following sections Overview of the communication and dissemination needs Identification of the content to be communicated and disseminated Identification specification and analysis of the respective target audiences eg industrial stakeholders from sectors directly steel ammonia and indirectly further energy intensive industries concerned local national and EU policy makers RD community Shaping of the specific message depending on the audience Selection of the proper means to address the message webpage workshops meetings learning resources scientific conferences articles etc and overview of foreseen activities Governance and rules of the communication and dissemination strategy both internally and externally and responsibilities of the partners o Open access principles combination of gold and green will be followed for all scientific publications Any pertinent data that is not IPprotected will be deposited as FAIR data in open access repositories o The communication and dissemination manager will contact the partners at a monthly basis and collect all necessary developments Target indicators as well as monitoring and updating procedures
1st Periodic Report to EU (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)Based on the 1st progress report to the EU, a public summary covering the project activites in the 1st period will be made available for dissemination purposes.
Definition of the base and reference case for KPI's assessment (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)In order to assess INITIATE KPIs eg economic energy consumption and CO2 avoidance fairly and in a useful way it is necessary to define reference and base cases As reported in task 53 the base case will adopt stateoftheart commercially available integrated steel plant for hot rolled coil production and urea production from natural gas The reference case will consist of CO2 capture technologies applied to both integrated steel and urea plant so to identify competing technologies among processes for CO2 mitigation In this deliverable the KPIs of the assessment will be clearly stated and quantified for both the reference and base technologies
Updated Communication and Dissemination Plan (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)Midterm the project, the communication and dissemination plan is updated to optimal serve the renewed needs and interests for all parties in the consortium. Additionally, an evaluation of the realised communication and dissemination activities thus far is included.
Multi-stakeholder decision support for widespread adoption of industrial symbiosis (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)This report convers the combining of Value Case Methodology (VCM) with the preliminary notion of “Pathways to self-organised Industrial Symbiosis”, developed in the SCALER project based on an analysis of value assessment methods, to create a novel multi-stakeholder decision support method tailored to the specific needs of INITIATE roll out.In order to identify the key elements for a successful long-term implementation of INITIATE, and more in general of industrial symbiotic systems, a method for multi-stakeholder decision support will be tailored for application to INITIATE and the other symbiotic systems that are selected in Task 6.4. This is a method to guide the transition of ecosystems of actors beyond this project. First, we will describe Transition Readiness Levels that illustrate where an ecosystem currently stands and the next steps it needs to take in order to move towards full industrial symbiosis. Second, we will devise collaborative strategies for (cross-sectorial) sharing of resources and benefits, by defining adequate tools (e.g. contracts and stakeholders’ platforms). To this end, TNO has developed the Value Case Methodology (VCM). This is a theoretically grounded method that is used in practice to build multi-stakeholder collaborations.
Inventory of successful symbiotic relationships (se abrirá en una nueva ventana)This deliverable contains an inventory of alternatives for the symbiotic management of residual steel gases. Alternatives are classified according to specific metrics. These alternatives will include at least the use of the INTIATE gas conditioning for: (i) decarbonising power production (STEPWISE project) and (ii) producing Methanol (FReSMe), which have been previously studied or are currently under research. The INITIATE system (at 1500 t(Urea)/d) and the INITIATE broader symbiotic options from WP4 (respectively Tasks 4.3 and 4.4) are also included. The search and classification methodologies will be aligned with approaches of similar SPIRE projects (e.g. SCALER) to capitalise on existing knowledge.
"Following the sucessful selection of the industrial functional materials for the WGS section, sulphur removal section, CO2-H2+N2 separation section, the methanation section and the ammonia production section, these materials are producted using industrial facilites. The delivery of these materials is defined as a demonstrator, communicated to the public.Amendment 2022: This deliverable is delayed by 3 months, in line with the delay in Tasks 3.1 and 3.2.Amendment 2023: This deliverable is 4 month additionally postponed to M42. As the Amendment 2023 also reschedules the campaigns, the later start of the campaigns to M47 allows postponing this deliverable.Amendment #3, 2024: This deliverable is postponed as the SEWGS sorbent shaping is more challenging than expected. The delivery of the adsorbent for the 1st campaign is not influenced as the campaign itself is also delayed."
This report presents an overview of the development of the projects website and visual identity such as logos templates for reports and presentations intended to aid the visibility of the consortium to the different stakeholders
