Training for co-makership and supplier chain development throughout the European automotive sector

Objective

The tendency to increase outsourcing of parts and components involves more than a simple change in the balance of make-or-buy decisions. Responsibility for the development of a growing number of components is shifting from car manufacturers to their suppliers. At the same time, suppliers are under tremendous pressure to improve quality, decrease costs and improve their flexibility and speed of delivery.

This project will develop training courses in a number of key co-makership areas such as open book costing, technical co-operation, actual quality planning, systems auditing, self-billing and electronic data interchange.

Impact
The project will contribute to the creation of more open management style and the involvement of workers that were not previously concerned by customer-supplier relationships. Exposure to co-makership and the experiences derived will benefit SMEs in their dealings with both customers and their owner suppliers.
