Strategic approaches to a global economy

Objective

European SMEs, as drivers of the economy, need to cope with the rapid and intense changes resulting from globalisation. The development of and investment in training is an appropriate response to this process. This project is designed to develop and test a series of training activities focused on helping SMEs to deal with the impact of globalisation in terms of their strategic thinking and business planning.

Intended outcomes include:
- a training needs analysis tool based on a 'globalisation matrix' and 'business characteristics matrix';
- production of a video, based on case studies and accompanying toolkits and training modules;
- development of workbooks, guidelines and a diagnostic toolkit;
- 'company-to-company' training modules and courses;
- development of new regional business support programmes for SMEs.

Impact
The project will increase the capacity of SME managers to respond to the challenges and opportunities of globalisation, thus increasing competitiveness and quality within SMEs. It will also assist SMEs in making most efficient use of the resources invested in managerial development by focusing on training in business objectives and needs.
