Objective

New digital communication systems, otherwise referred to as "fieldbus technology", will change every function and task in industrial automation and create many new tasks that have not existed before. This project will promote vocational training to meet these needs. More specifically, it aims to:
- develop and produce high quality learning materials for all technical functions and professions in the field of fieldbus technology;
- plan and establish a training environment for practising new skills; and
- develop and test a new fieldbus training programme.

The project is divided into 20 tasks which will be managed and carried out by partners with special knowledge and interests in a given area. Different training courses will be developed according to different sets of tasks and target audiences. The outcomes of the project will be training materials, methods, models of training environments and experience in building up these environments. Specific products will include individual modules, modular courses and stand alone programmes using the materials.

Impact
The training developed by the project will contribute to the transformation of work roles and the division of tasks between production, maintenance and planning. The involvement of the social partners in the dissemination process will help to ensure that the training is taken up throughout industry.
