Objective
There have been rapid technological and structural changes in the retail sector throughout Europe resulting in a high proportion of employees working on an atypical basis. This type of work is often dominated by female workers. Current training/employment practices are such that they do not allow either workers or employers to strategically plan career paths and development, resulting in less staff motivation, reduced levels of productivity and inequality in terms of opportunity.
The project aims to produce a manual which will serve as a career planning and development tool for workers in the retail sector. The objective is to provide them with a means by which to influence their own position in the workplace and have an input into their training needs.
Impact
The manual produced by this project will promote co-operation between employees and employers in career and personal development by involving employers in on-going consultation on - and evaluation of - training and career needs of individual employees.
