Objective
Countries of the EU are developing competence-based qualification systems for certification of people managing waste disposal activities including waste transfer, treatment, landfill and other means of disposal. The qualifications cover forms of waste including hazardous, but not including nuclear materials.
This will build on these competence-based standards and will develop a learner-centred, telematics-based tutorial and assessment system, comprising e-mail communications for tutorial support, specially developed assessment forms for the various units of competence available from a world wide website, with supplementary and up to date information on the standards and the associated legislation. The system will be tested in Belgium, Ireland and the UK with managers of partner organisations and managers from SMEs in the waste industry.
Impact
This tutorial and assessment system for competence-based qualification will be accessible to employees of small businesses; responsive to changes in qualification, systems and methods of dealing with hazardous materials; responsive to changes in the legislative framework, and applicable across the member states of the EU and of Eastern Europe.
