Women's qualification for new technologies and new forms of work organisation: Needs analysis and vocational updating strategies

Objective

The globalisation of markets and associated aggressive market conditions are forcing companies to change their production systems and implement new forms of work organisation and management. The aim of this project is to sensitise companies in the processing industry to actively involve female employees in the introduction of new technologies in conjunction with new forms of work organisation. Women's skills and qualifications are often overlooked in the restructuring of work processes. There is, therefore, a risk of these processes being carried out to the detriment of the professional development of female employees (job cutbacks, switching to teleworking, exclusion from core jobs). This results in an urgent need to develop appropriate forms of vocational training to enable women to learn about the new technologies and be able to use them productively.

During the first stage, a study will be conducted on the qualifications required by women to work with new technologies and modern production methods in new work structures. This will be done on the basis of a secondary analysis of existing materials and projects as well as with the help of operational case studies in companies introducing new means of production in conjunction with new work organisation methods. Special attention will be focused on examining the continuing training programmes carried out in relation to such restructuring measures, particularly from the point of view of the applicability of multimedia learning. Based on these study results, training module examples will be developed in the second stage using multimedia and tele-learning techniques. These modules will be geared specifically to the qualification needs of female employees and female learning concepts.

Impact
The acquisition of new qualifications in the area of communication and information technologies will help advance equal opportunities between men and women as well as improve women's access to the labour market.
