Objective
Ecological production (or EP: food raw material production without chemicals) and integrated food production (or IFP: production methods which minimise chemicals) respond to consumers' demands for healthier and environmentally-friendly food. Such products are an element of competitive advantage, especially for SMEs and producers in areas of declining agriculture.
The goal of this project is to produce a basic training package which introduces EP and IFP principles and methods into all levels of the production chain, from raw material producers to SMEs. The production of berries, notably strawberries, will be the pilot sector. The main product of the project will be a flexible set of folders for tutors and trainees. They will include a work book to facilitate distance learning use among producers. Short courses and team working groups will be used to train tutors and demonstration entrepreneurs in how to develop and up-date training material after the project. Most of the material will be brought together in a computer-based training programme.
Impact
The results of this project will be directly taken up in the training programmes of the partners. The flexible format of the products will facilitate transfer throughout Europe. The ultimate impact will be the development of a holistic approach to environmentally-friendly food production and the emergence of a continuing training culture in the industry.
