New competences for public managers and privatisation of public services in Europe

Objective

Privatisation of public services poses common problems in European public administrations, and they are facing new and continually changing situations. By undertaking a thorough examination of current changes in Europe and conducting individual case studies of public service privatisation, this project intends to formulate new training programmes that are capable of responding to the pressing and necessary requirement for a renewed professional identity in European public service.

The outcomes of the project will constitute the basis of the training activities of partner schools/institutions as members of a European network for public administration training. Some of the schools run public management in-service vocational training courses, while others are focused on training for students who want to work in public administration after attending post-graduate specialisation courses. The main expected product will be new training courses and methodologies that can be integrated into the national public management training programmes of each partner.

Impact
This project will contribute to improvements in the standards and quality of public service in Europe and to the job security of people currently working in public service.
