Objective
Currently most older buildings are reconstructed and repaired by craftsmen/women without specialised skills in the field of building conservation. When considering the importance of the conservation of historical monuments, there is a need in today's market for highly specialised skilled labour. UNESCO programmes have increased international demand for continuing education in building conservation.
The aim of this project is to train craftsmen/women to become highly specialised in the protection of architectural heritage. The partners will co-operate to develop guidelines for training programmes on the conservation of old buildings. It will be targeted at building carpenters, blacksmiths, bricklayers, stone workers and painters. A training programme for
instructors and advisers will also be developed.
Impact
The project will result in: an improvement in quality assurance with regard to the conservation of our common heritage, a market for craftsmen/women with specialised skills in the conservation of old buildings, increased mobility of this type of skilled labour and higher status for craftsmen/women in this field of work.
