Joint teleworking system - innovative forms of work for medium-sized companies

Objective

An attempt is to be made to offset the consequences of parental leave for employees and companies by means of a regional training network of SMEs. The aim is to develop a concept for a self-supporting industrial network system. The industry-wide network will have the following two functions: placing suitable personnel in cases of staff constraints caused by parental leave, etc; and maintaining qualification levels through "on-the-job training" and external continuing training programmes during parental leave.

The joint teleworking system is to provide parents with the opportunity to perform appropriate commercial and administrative work at a tele-workplace during or after parental leave. The project will also develop a concept for providing companies and employees with the skills and qualifications required to carry out teleworking. Continuing training modules are planned for the following areas: working in a tele-workplace, co-operative teleworking, as well as new forms of work organisation/typical teleworking task areas. A further element of the network comprises continuing training modules for employees on parental leave. Based on modules already developed under FORCE for commercial-administrative occupations, modules are to be created for lawyer's/notary public's assistants, health-sector occupations and office work in the crafts and trades sector, thus increasing the range of SMEs involved.

Impact
The use of tele-learning makes it possible for women on parental leave to continue training, thus helping retain jobs. Furthermore, this type of continuing training network facilitates more flexible handling of personnel planning, particularly with regard to staff on parental leave.
