Development of methods and means for the training of women who live in disadvantaged mountainous areas

Objective

New alternative forms of European tourism, especially in Mediterranean countries, are usually combined with the consumption of local traditional products. This development is of crucial importance for women who live in mountainous areas, as they are disadvantaged in terms of employment opportunities and family income. This project will develop training material and methods that take account of the special needs of women living in mountainous areas. The material will be designed for self-education. Efforts will be made to encourage the participation of rural women in collective or individual enterprise schemes and to improve existing women's enterprises in terms of management and marketing.

The project will deliver special training material that is both conventional and new technology-based (videotape, CD-Rom). It will also produce guide books for prospective businesswomen. These will be designed for use not just by rural women themselves, but also for the various vocational training centres and trainees which are involved in the implementation of similar projects.

Impact
If successful, this project will encourage people to stay in mountainous areas and in that way halt the trend towards urbanism.
