Objective
Economic and environmental change in agriculture is happening very rapidly, creating an immense challenge for the sector. In rural areas these changes are not always seen as beneficial because the frequent result is the disintegration of economic and social life. The economic situation, determined by over-production, forces producers to search for new ways to adapt to producing a larger variety of consumer products.
The partners aim to create vocational education structures as part of a community support system for the development and diversification of rural areas. Curricula and modules will be developed and technical training will be given to teachers and instructors from formal education institutes. An informal approach, directed at generating farmers' community initiatives, will be adopted for the training of 'social organisers'. Four sets of modules, which will be regional/national adaptations of general concepts, will be produced. These will cater for needs identified by the education institutes and private organisations involved.
Impact
The project will support farmers' community action and sustainable development.
