The shop steward as education and training advisor

Objective

This project is designed to help workers take advantage of vocational guidance, education and training opportunities in order to improve their chances of employment. It is an attempt to enable people to cope with the pressures caused by industrial change and changes in working patterns and practices. The role of trade unions is essential to this process, as they are ideally placed to help workers develop themselves and take up learning opportunities.

The project itself will develop and test training modules for shop stewards which will give them the knowledge and skills they need to take on the role of education and training advisors in the workplace. The modules and materials will be produced in multimedia and paper-based format.

Impact
The project will help trade unions play a more proactive role in the development of the skills of the workforce. It will increase the availability of high quality education and training to workers. Lastly it will contribute to a better skilled and more educated workforce.
