Skills accreditation model: development of a system applicable to the physical sciences

Objective

Skills are acquired in a variety of areas and processes, both through vocational training and in the course of a person's lifetime. In scientific disciplines, skills involve a modelling dimension incorporating links to the real world and the field of experimentation. The purpose of validation is to improve the extent to which people's real skills correspond to occupational requirements and the training courses offered.

The project partners aim to design a computerised skills-evaluation system. This system will be based on a model which can be paralleled to hypertext navigation on a network, i.e. the user activates meaningful links between concepts, theories, areas of knowledge, technical expertise and real situations modelled using this knowledge. This system will accredit skills by managing progress through a range of validation mechanisms. It will produce a personal and statistical profile on the basis of the areas tested.

Impact
Improved measurement and acknowledgement of real skills and thus greater correspondence of personal skills to professional requirements and training courses offered.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
