Objective
The sharing of functions and co-operation between transport carriers will be essential aspects in the future if the objective of achieving economic and ecological optimisation of the transport chain is to be achieved. Ports and goods traffic centres are the interfaces of the transport chain. The aim of this project is to develop a common pan-European quality standard relating to the acquisition of key qualifications for training personnel in the area of transport logistics - with due regard for the environment and safety education - plus the use of telematic systems.
Modules with uniform standards will be developed for the logistics area for this purpose. This will include drawing up a catalogue of criteria specific to individual transport carriers within the context of a programme for meeting the economic needs of the transport sector through the sharing of functions, developing uniform standards with regard to environmental protection, safety instruction for training personnel, especially in relation to inland waterways transport, ports and goods traffic centres, as well as defining common standards to secure transport interfaces, co-ordinating telematic systems for training centres and setting up a network of training institutions active on the Internet. The modules and instruments which are developed will help cope with the restructuring necessary in the transport and logistics sectors. The development of a common quality standard and certificates recognised at pan-European level will help enhance vocational qualifications and thus lead to improved conditions on the labour market.
Impact
The special feature of this project lies in linking the areas of transport, logistics, environment and safety, thus contributing to interdisciplinary solutions to transport problems.
