Objective
A wide variety of new professional skills are required on the labour market as a result of increasing international competition and global economic change. This includes introducing new information and communication technologies in the workplace (UK), which also lead to changes in work organisation. This process can open up new opportunities for women if new, innovative approaches in the initial and continuing vocational training of women are supported. In order to promote equal opportunities for women as a target group, this project intends to co-ordinate the networking of projects and institutions in three European countries where women are trained in occupational areas with a promising future. These areas include new information and communication technologies, the ecology sector and new services.
The idea of this networking is to create the possibility of benefiting from the experience of other projects with similar or comparable objectives and jointly identifying new job-profiles for women. It is also hoped, by joining together in a specialist network, to consolidate and heighten the efficiency and competence of the projects as well as ensure mutual support in the implementation, evaluation and transfer of the innovative training programmes. In its role as co-ordinator of the IRIS network up to 1995 and through the expansion of the nation-wide network over the past year, the Federal Institute for Vocational Training has already created the basis for this national and transnational network. The setting-up of a database will provide an overview of current approaches in the area of vocational training for women.
Impact
The acquisition of qualifications in the field of information and communication technologies will improve women's access to the labour market as well as facilitate the identifying of new job profiles for women.
