Cosmological consequences of Particle Physics models

Objective

The main objective of this proposal is to better understand the interplay between cosmological data and the particle physics models underlying it. Cosmological data give strong support for inflation, and a well-motivated particle physics model leading to inflation is being sought.

A promising connection between cosmology and high-energy physics comes from extended objects. For a number of years there has been considerable interest in the cosmological impact of topological defects from super-symmetric theories, which can exhibit interesting new properties with respect to their non-super-symmetric counterparts. More recently, interest was further stimulated by the realization that the soliton solutions in four-dimensional super-gravity may be directly identified with ten-dimensional super-string states whose low energy limit they represent.

These super-gravity defects typically would have a potentially measurable effect on the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. Therefore, comparison with cosmological data might provide some information about the compactification parameters of super-string theory. That will be our aim: consider the extended objects appearing in different high energy physics models, study their cosmological implications, and use them as feed-back to constrain the initial model.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
