Acquiring assembly skills by robot learning

The proposed project studied how to replace the labour-intensive procedural programming of industrial robots with autonomous skill learning. Building on top of the ERC StG achievements, the applicant demonstrated that their mixture of motor primitives (MoMP) approach can be applied to industrial tasks to various potential users. Core in this study was the identification of relevant use-cases conducted by user-interviews with industrial partners, build a prototype for this specific use-case and directly test the proposed prototype with the industrial partners. On the long run, this project may have socioeconomic impact by helping to bring more manufacturing back to Europe by making robot programming more widely available to laypersons.
