Fle-X was set out to explore and probe the transition to market of light and flexible X-ray imagers based on printable lead halide-based perovskite inks. During project’s timeline we investigated crucial sections of our proof-of-concept (PoC) flexible X-ray imager and its viability to be produced on large scale. Scaling ability was tested on our newly developed no-waste perovskite ink synthesis and on large area thick perovskite coatings by carrying out tests on substrates up to 10x10cm2 in size. The main goal of the project to build a complete and functioning flexible device was reached. We achieved this by stacking two distinct units of our PoC device, an ink-jet printed and flexible backplane with an array of organic field effect transistors (OFETs) which control reading of specific pixels and the front plane with an array of pixels coated with a perovskite sensitizer. We demonstrated the main function of this device – selective addressing of pixels through switching of OFETs under X-ray illumination. We also showed that our pixel arrays with about 2mm pitch and 1mm2 effective pixel size can, due to carefully optimized design, detect and distinguish point-like metal objects under X-ray illumination with a very low pixel cross talk of around 5%.
