Development and testing of continuing education modules and learning materials for online working for employees in regional tourist facilities

Objective

The increasing use of online services, especially the Internet, is fundamentally changing information management in firms, organisations, and institutions. In the tourist trade and the hotel and restaurant business, the presentation of products and services on the Internet is particularly establishing itself as a standard component among marketing concepts. Although an Internet presence can be created with the aid of outside services, high costs are then involved.

The aim of the project is to develop, for people working in this trade, continuing education modules and self-study materials that will enable them to develop for themselves Internet-related and general online marketing ideas, as well as Internet pages. The modules will contain technical principles, service principles, and possibilities on the Internet, and specific information for implementing their own services. Parallel to this, an Internet hand-book will be produced as a basis for qualification measures. The CD-ROM will supplement this and offer the learner illustrative examples for developing presentations with graphics and text.

Impact
INTERTOUR will increase the quantitative and qualitative use of networks and will professionalise marketing. The combination of the new media with the tourist sector will create new, future-oriented jobs, which will especially benefit structurally weak and sparsely populated regions.
