Objective
Training for drivers of dangerous loads is still inadequate in Europe. This pilot project will create a continuing and regularly updated training tool, for logistical staff - for example safety advisors who will have to be employed in all European companies involved in the transport of dangerous materials from the year 2000. It will also enable the skills of European drivers to be assessed in a complex, evolving regulatory framework.
FIESTA brings together a host of European partners, hauliers, shippers and training bodies. It will consist of two phases. The first will involve the production of training modules and teaching tools, including classes, interactive exercises, databases, and the development of resources such as the production of photos or videos. Each module produced will be linked to an in-company assessment stage involving monitors and drivers.
The second phase will be publicise the results, through national and regional events held in the partner countries, in the pages of the specialist press, and with the help of international petroleum and petrochemical companies. They will be passed on to vocational bodies in the petroleum and chemical sectors and the liquid and gas fuels sectors, to drivers' trades unions, road safety organisations and the governmental bodies concerned.
Impact
FIESTA will harmonise the regulations regarding the training of drivers of dangerous loads in Europe, and limit the risks posed to the environment and to people.
