Objective
Over the years, newspaper and magazine advertising has developed modes of presentation and expression which are particularly suited to the medium. With the development of electronic publishing however new forms of advertising are emerging. The newspaper and publishing industry must adapt to remain competitive. This project aims to assist the industry in this process through the development and testing of an interactive educational package designed to give employees training in appropriate skills.
Project work will involve information collection and analysis, programme content definition and design and the production and preparation of material for testing. Areas to be researched are advertising in electronic publishing, design, presentation and use of classified advertising, design of multilevel display advertising, transaction services in advertising, interaction with advertisers, advertisement production techniques and the economics of electronic advertising.
The information gathered will serve to produce a three-part package to be delivered on CD-ROM. The package will focus on the theory of advertising in electronic media, practical demonstrations with examples and on interactive exercises. The innovative aspect of the package is the combination of training material on CD-ROM and simultaneous updating of additional material on the World Wide Web which can be used in in-company or in distance learning situations.
Impact
The project is expected to foster university/media industry cooperation, enhance new technology-based training and promote the use of electronic publishing as a competitive tool.
