Continuing training in laser therapy

Objective

The use of laser technology in the medical field requires the implementation of intensive training sessions for all users. The goal of this pilot project is twofold. Firstly, it aims to develop a complete reference training system in the domain of new laser technology for doctors/dentists and for paramedical staff. Secondly, it aims to give medical practitioners in general and dental practitioners in particular the opportunity to specialise in laser technology.

The complete reference training system will cover many themes including basic laser physics, thetypology, means of operating and unique aspects of different lasers, important security considerations and the scientific theory on laser use in a medical environment.

There will be various stages in this pilot project. These stages include the examination and preparation of clinical cases, the design of educational training programmes, the implementation of training modules, the preparation of directed projects, the creation and development of supports, i.e. a training manual and a CD-ROM, and, finally, the introduction of training programmes in the form of university courses and seminars. Practical laboratory work and real and in vivo technical applications are also part of the project plans.

Impact
Using laser technology in the medical field will reduce the risk of contamination and post-operative pain greatly, and will improve patient treatment as the technology localises and reduces the areas of incision.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
