Training over the internet for occasional in-company trainers

Objective

Businesses often call upon their own managers, engineers or technicians to provide part of the continuing professional or vocational training for their own employees. The general objective of the pilot project INTERFOC is to prepare these occasional in-house trainers for involvement in open, multimedia and distance training, by means of a training resource suitable for use over the Internet and Intranet.

Six modules are planned, to provide or reinforce the necessary educational and technical skills. They will cover the different modes of training; the activities of the learner and trainer in the different types of training; the construction of individual training paths; supervision and the relationship between trainer and trainee; and finally assessment.

Maximum use will be made of interactive methods and the flexibility in module study. Information technology will be used to present text and graphics elements in an attractive way. Additional services will be available on the server, for example general information on new training technologies, or through an e-mail facility. The businesses and organisations involved in INTERFOC will promote the server in the internal, sector-based and general trade press, and during shows or symposia devoted to the training of trainers.

Impact
INTERFOC will contribute to the use of new training technologies and new tools offered by the information society, the extension of networks of exchange and cooperation between trainers and the reduction of training costs.
