International multimedia training modules for service technicians in the field of heating, air conditioning, and solar technology

Objective

Service technicians often act as the link between businesses and customers and also ensure follow-up orders for business. In addition they can perform a double function. Besides their technical service activity they can, in an advisory capacity, perform valuable work in enlightening the population about the use of new, environmentally friendly utility supply techniques.

The aim of the project is the development of multimedia modules for the continuing education of the service technician in the field of heating, air conditioning, and solar technology. With the help of various international project partners (including small and medium-sized firms, trade guilds, and scientists), the modules will take account both of the practical requirements and of the latest scientific research in Europe. The results of the project in the form of worksheets, guidance texts, slides, and also (where necessary) new measurement modules and demonstration equipment (still to be developed), will in the first instance be posted on the Internet to facilitate rapid and inexpensive dissemination and easy accessibility. In addition a CD-ROM version will be prepared so that the modules can be used not only by the trainers for course teaching but also by the course participants for distance learning or independent study.

Impact
The project will promote the adaptation of service technicians to the technological, economic, and ecological changes in this sector. It will strengthen the position of this occupa-tional group in the labor market and the competitiveness of small and medium-sized firms.
