Objective
With continuing growth in the service and communications sector, teleworking is enabling job creation in many location-independent sectors of activity and, also, opportunities for employment for groups facing geographic, social and/or economic exclusion. Teleworkers, however, must have relevant knowledge and skills for working in this new environment. This project aims to meet this need by developing an innovative distance training tool, TELEFOS, for training individuals in the basic concepts of teleworking.
Project development will be phased. Needs analysis will provide information on teleworking in Europe, focusing on experience and the identification of the issues involved. These will include legal and social aspects, target groups and applications, and organisational aspects. Development of the TELEFOS tool will facilitate the provision of off-line courses on these issues. The design phase will involve training material development, the design and implementation of the open and distance learning environment and supporting training activities, and the establishment of an advisory system to support training through tutor/trainee communication.
Products will include training programmes and curricula, tools for self and distance learning, and supporting materials. Project testing and evaluation will be organised through small groups in partner countries. Project results will be disseminated through workshops, the media and internet.
Impact
The development of the TELEFOS tool will establish a permanent system for training and supporting teleworkers, promote the creation of flexible training programmes for ODL, and enhance employment prospects.
