Objective

Because of the pace of technological change and the growing influence of information and communication technologies on society, new types and forms of work have emerged. A good example of this being teleworking. However, this type of work leads to related problems in areas such as labour legislation, tax regimes, social security and insurance, training access, work safety and time management. Other problems, mostly because the teleworker is effectively a micro-SME, include the lack of experience in marketing, external relations with clients, accounting, strategy and understanding relevant legislation.

The objective of this pilot project is to develop advice, guidance and training material for teleworkers, taking into account the specific problems outlined above. Emphasis will be given to the needs of female teleworkers, and the importance of finding the balance between professional and family life. The specific activities include: analysis of the current situation of the teleworkers; development of training material/modules on general management themes and specific themes; creation of an advice/guidance system; piloting of the material/system; evaluation; and correction of problems arising.

Results will include a range of reports on the specific needs of teleworkers, training tools, guidance manuals, a database, a web page and other publications. A final conference will be organised to present and debate the project outcomes.

Impact
The project will help to ensure that the development of teleworking does not leave people working in the profession at a disadvantage in the labour market.
