Development and testing of modules and materials for the international qualification of trainers and teachers at vocational institutions

Objective

In vocational training there is a dual requirement: to harmonise quality standards; and to provide workers with the skills which will enable them to take advantage of the multitude of opportunities in the European labour market. Practical vocational competence in Europe increasingly requires the ability to move in socially and culturally foreign contexts and to have the ability to function linguistically and interculturally - these are becoming the key qualifications for access to employment and commercial life in an expanding internal market.

To promote these key qualifications it will be necessary to incorporate the improvement of the foreign language skills of trainees and young workers into the teaching of specialist knowledge and abilities, and to create an optimum combination of motivated language work, intercultural learning, and vocational orientation in the exchange and encounter programs. An essential prerequisite for achieving this goal is the inclusion of trainers and vocational school teachers in the process of internationalising vocational training.

The project will promote the ability to function linguistically and interculturally in a work context and improve the international quality of exchange programs with regard to the content, methods, and teaching and learning materials. This will be achieved by developing, testing, and disseminating continuing education modules for the international qualification of trainers and vocational-school teachers.

Impact
Through this project, among many other results, the methods and content of vocational training will be adapted to the needs of the internal market by promoting mobility and creating a combination of motivated language work, intercultural learning, and vocational orientation.
