Objective
Within small and medium sized enterprises and industries, staff who fill technical and commercial positions often have trouble communicating in foreign languages. This pilot project has two goals: First; it will create targeted multilingual communication modules with particular attention paid to cultural and commercial components. This will facilitate the staff mobility that an open market demands; Second, it aims to strike a balance for small and medium sized enterprises and industries between training curricula and labour market communication demands.
LEOMEP will take place in two phases of 12 months. The first phase will provide an overview of existing training modules in partner countries and of their communication-based components. Next, by auditing the language skills in enterprises and of workers or the unemployed, the partners will learn more about the economic sectors or positions they fill. Finally, once the communication profiles have been detailed, they will be compared and modelled to fit the cultural contexts of LEOMEP partner countries. The second phase will be to produce targeted multilingual communication modules that can be used on CD-ROM and on the Internet. Most emphasis will be placed on functionality and polyvalence, allowing skills to be acquired in a minimum amount of time. Using this method, the tools will also be usable for long-distance training. The consumer media will be used to disseminate the results of this pilot project.
Impact
LEOMEP will implement communication and language training modules that faithfully reflect reality and the current needs of the labour market.
