Computer-based training activities related to a Post Office company network, for ergonomic quality

Objective

For Europe to compete successfully in the global information market, opportunities must be created on using modern information and communication technology. Various initiatives have been taken to create the necessary infrastructure, and networks now exist for the delivery of teaching resources. This project, developed through the European post offices' vocational training network [POSTNET], aims to meet the training needs of specific groups of post office workers by using the existing technology to create an on-line delivery system for educational multimedia materia.

Partners will first design a set of training requirements in terms of content and procedures and the technological infrastructure required. Systems architecture will use virtual reality (VR) interfaces and telecommunications networks, thus enabling open and distance learning (ODL). Specific development packages for VR and ODL will be created for implementing the pilot scheme. Teaching material will be developed for use with the system. This will focus on ergonomic procedures in the post office business chain, and will be designed for self training and distance learning in foreign language and project work. The system will support different delivery scenarios including the use of stand-alone PCs - an important feature for post office sites without on-line connections.

Impact
This project will promote the use of new technology in the development of vocational training programmes, foster positive approaches to continuous education, and provide opportunities for raising skills levels.
