Objective
Activities at home and work are becoming increasingly information-technology [IT] based, but IT training and qualifications singularly lack transparency. In the private, public and para-public sectors, IT training is frequently organised in response to changing occupational needs. However, in the absence of a recognised accreditation authority setting the guidelines, standards and levels of qualification, the knowledge and skills acquired will have limited value in the labour market. As calls for European qualifications standards increase and job profiles become standardised across Europe, the development of methodology for the accreditation of IT qualifications will become inevitable. This programme seeks to take the initiative in this field by proposing a unified certification system for IT qualifications obtained in EU Member States.
Partners will evaluate what is currently being achieved, identify common training needs and define common vocational prototypes. CD-ROM based multi-criteria methodology for the evaluation of IT competence will be designed, then amended through the partnership network, developed into a Web-based application and tested in selected partner training institutions. The project will also define procedures for the recognition and certification of IT qualifications and for the establishment of an accreditation authority.
Impact
The project will promote transparency of qualifications and worker mobility across Europe.
