Objective
In an increasingly competitive international market characterised by technological advances, improved production processes and changing regulations, research in the European Union has shown that on-the-job vocational training in knowledge and skills areas directly linked to user needs and for use in flexible learning situations, is likely to give companies the competitive edge. This project has been developed on the basis of these findings. The aim of the project is to create infrastructure in European industries for the delivery of open and distance learning programmes using computer information systems [CD-ROMs and Internet].
The partnership will include industries, universities and Greek vocational training centres [VTC]. The project phases will begin with an analysis of end user needs, and then specify, design and implement the proposed system and products. WWW servers will be installed in Kronos and Neorion VTCs for delivering ODL modules and courses for end-user industries. On the basis of expressed needs, the project will develop CD-ROM based educational modules on labour law, health and safety at work issues, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and other modules for training in the use of the system.
The project will aim to implement the vocational training system into end-user industries using multimedia and internet compatible PCs. Following testing, products and systems will be finalised and used for employee self-training in end-user companies.
Impact
The project will promote continuous vocational training, raise vocational skills levels and enhance the competitiveness of European industry.
