Objective
This project is targeted at English, German and Italian SMEs who are expanding into foreign markets, and need practical, specialised tools to help them use technical terminology in mechanical engineering sector.
The partners will undertake in-depth research in 20 SMEs to examine the relative importance of specialised written and spoken expressions in the three project languages. Then, in association with experts in the field of information technology, linguistics and publishing, they will produce a teaching package on mechanical engineering terminology, using a skeleton phrase book which will be structured to enable the gradual broadening of its contents. A series of pilot training courses, comprising two levels, will then be piloted with employees from a representative sample of SMEs. The final product will be a trilingual phrase book, designed to provide SME technicians and commercial managers with new language skills, particularly with regard to import, export and technical terms.
Impact
The trilingual phrase book developed by this project will enable mechanical engineering SMEs to develop effective import and export strategies and provide a qualification framework for language learning in the industry.
