Objective
Unemployment is high across Europe. The labour market has changed over the last 10 to 20 years. Big companies can no longer be relied upon to provide employment. SMEs are increasingly becoming a focus for economic growth. Such companies need people with a good knowledge of new technology, the social, economic and cultural situation in other European countries, and foreign languages.
The key idea of this project is for students in vocational schools to create viable companies, to work in them for a year, and then to liquidate them. Students will be trained in a foreign language, and will learn about export/import techniques, regulations/laws, and the social, economic and culture life of neighbouring countries. Each student will be monitored by an advisor from a real company, preferably somebody from a local SME.
Students will be able to communicate with each other by fax, internet and video-conferences. The experiment will be assessed in terms of quality, and relevant material will be produced at the end of the project to disseminate the results.
Impact
The project will give young people an understanding of how things work in other countries, and how people react and think. They will also be better equipped to deal with rules and regulations in the labour market.
