Scottish European telematics training initiative

Objectif

Systematic instruction, pioneered in the US, is a method of supporting people into jobs. Job trainers go into the employers' premises and learn the job remit thoroughly. Once the trainer is familiar with the job and the employees, they then take a student into the workplace and teach the skills to the student using systematic instruction. Systematic instruction breaks down each element of the job into manageable tasks, according to the student's ability. Once the student is competent in one task, they are then taught another task, until finally they are able to do the whole job. The job trainer/coach will then gradually withdraw. Eventually the student will be able to work unaided.

This project will develop an open learning package for supported employment and systematic instruction, aimed at job trainers/coaches who work with disadvantaged individuals and people with learning disabilities. The package will be available throughout Europe through the internet. It may also be distributed by other methods where an individual or organisation does not have direct access to the internet.

Impact
Disadvantaged students will be able to acquire a skill, gain employment, and enter the workforce. They will become financially and emotionally independent and have increased self-esteem. Employers will benefit from having a dedicated member of staff, who will have been trained by his/her job coach, at no expense to the employer.
