Objective
The socio-economic profile of many rural areas is changing. This is as a consequence of the decline or diversification of agriculture and related industries, changing work organisation within agriculture and changing rural demography. It also has far reaching implications for vocational training provision. All four 'Atlantic Arc' regions involved in this project have identified a common need to provide relevant, accessible and cost effective training in isolated rural areas.
The work programme has been has been divided into four 'work packages'. The first entails a 'position audit' and mapping exercise across the four regions. This will be a detailed analysis of the shared problems and difficulties of delivering training in rural areas. The second entails the building a curriculum framework. To do this, the partners will identify generic and specific training needs to provide guidance for training providers in rural areas, enabling them to provide a portfolio of opportunities tailored to the needs of the rural population, building bridges to access training provision. The third work package will be devoted to identifying and piloting methodologies. The partners will trial already developed innovative approaches to delivering training in rural areas on a transnational basis. The final work package concerns evaluation and dissemination.
Impact
The project will promote access to training in rural areas, especially by young unemployed, women and agricultural workers.
