Novel optimisation strategy for the power quality of grid connected wind farms

Objective

Assessing and demonstrating technical performance and economical advantages of an innovative variable speed system (recently developed in the framework of a European project) in a commercial wind farm. Demonstrating real time compensation of reactive power demand of fixed-speed turbines by variable speed machines equipped with electronic power converters. Demonstrating and quantifying the technical and economical benefits of power factor control in wind farms. Contributing to the elaboration of appropriate rules for design and exploitation of wind farms: a 20% increase of installed capacity at existing connection points without additional investments in grid infrastructure seems realistic.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
