Demonstration of six advanced control technology 1.3mw scale wind turbines operating at three sites with distinctly different environmental conditions

Objective

The objective of this project is to demonstrate the-technical viability and economic performance of an advanced 1 .3MW scale wind turbine design under a range of distinctly different environmental conditions. Innovative power generation directly at 12 kV will be developed. Six wind turbines will be manufactured, installed and tested, each being a design variant of an existing pre-commercial 1.3MW wind turbine protope. Three different sites will be selected such that the full range of environmental conditions will be available for the comprehensive test programme, which will study Class I, II and III turbines.

The specific aims of the project are:
- To develop a "family" of 1.3MW scale wind turbine configurations derived from a successful, existing pre-commercial 1.3MW prototype. The family of turbine configurations will be designed to cover the complete range of viable wind conditions encountered in the EU.
- To develop rotors suited to the complete range of design wind conditions.
