Objective

The SAGE ITD started on June 1st, 2008 and launched by beginning of 2009 all related demonstrators in different engine segments: Two open rotor configurations, namely: SAGE1, Geared Open Rotor Demonstrator Led by Rolls-Royce plc with contributions from Rolls-Royce Deutschland, ITP, GKN Aerospace, Airbus and Leonardo Aircraft, and SAGE2, Contra-Rotating Open Rotor Demonstrator Led by Safran Aircraft Engines with contributions from Avio Aero, Airbus, GKN Aerospace, Leonardo Aircraft, Safran, Safran Nacelles, Safran Aero Boosters and Safran Electrical chr(38) Power. One specific Geared Turbofan engine demonstrator: SAGE4, led by MTU with contributions from Avio Aero and GKN Aerospace. SAGE3, on Large 3-shaft Turbofan Demonstrator, led by Rolls-Royce plc with contributions from Rolls-Royce Deutschland, ITP and GKN Aerospace. With focus on helicopter applications Safran Helicopter Engines (at that time Turbomeca) launched SAGE5, Turboshaft Demonstrator, supported by several partners' activities. A sixth demonstrator was introduced in 2012, after the decision to reduce the scope of SAGE 1, the SAGE6, Lean Burn Demonstration, led by Rolls-Royce plc with contributions from Rolls-Royce Deutschland.
