Livrables

Summary: The result is the architecture (general framework, protocols and client and server components) and an implementation of Multicast Integration Server. The overall system is composed of a software components enabling scalable and efficient mapping of IP multicast flows to ATM UNI 3.x switched point-to-multipoint connections. The client-server architecture of MIS is fully conformant to IP multicast service model as standardised by the IETF. In case the QoS guarantees are to be provided for a particular subset of receivers (IP hosts, connected to ATM network) the Internet Integrated Services approach is used to signal user preferences with RSVP protocol as QoS setup. The MIS will open a separate, QoS,. assured point-to-multipoint connection to this set of receivers given that both policy and admission control performed do not fail. The server side of the architecture runs in parallel two servers: 1. EARTH server for IP multicast address resolution to a set of ATM addresses being registered for the given IP multicast group, 2. RSVP server which differs from a standard RSVPd in that data flows are totally separated from control flows. MIS server is the only point of interaction of layer 2 adaptation protocol (EARTH) and layer 3 signalling protocol (RSVP). Besides QoS assurance the MIS supports shortcut routing between different logical IP subnets sharing the same ATM connectivity wrt UNI3.x. The current status is that of an operational early stage prototype running on a Sun/Solaris/FORE platform.

Résultats exploitables

The application tested is based on a previously developed application improving the capabilities of intercommunication and introducing a new video server and client functionally, with real time compression. The application has been tested using: real-time virtual server; different simulators (DCAP, RAS); video server and client utilities.
