PROSPECT (Prospect of multi domain management in the Expected open services market) realises and validates, via end-user trials, the integrated end-to-end management of IBC (Instrument Bus Computer) services, in a multi service provider and broadband network environment. The focus is on the design and implementation of solutions for interconnecting management systems for competing and co-operating service providers of pan-European services. PROSPECT has chosen a business model which identifies the typical business roles which would be in existence in the expected Open Services Market. These roles, which are similar to the roles used in the TINA Business Model, are based on the Customer / Provider paradigm. A provider could be a Connectivity Provider, a Teleservice Provider or a Composite Service Provider. Based on this model, the PROSPECT trials were conducted so that we could evaluate the practicality and usability of delivering a Tele-Education Service in a multi-provider and multi-domain environment. The PROSPECT trials included various services, ranging from integrated broadband bearer services (ATM) to virtual private network and personal communication services, Webstore, multimedia conferencing, hypermedia information services and tele-education services. An integrated end-to-end management system made up by interworking service management systems of the different service providers and their customers facilitates the formation of horizontal and vertical service chains, where increasingly powerful teleservice offerings are constructed from basic services and supporting teleservices. Besides enabling transparent and efficient usage of these services, the PROSPECT management system also implements one-stop shopping and one-stop service management.
