Objective
The aim of MINTOUR is to promote European tourism via a reliable uniform database on tourist areas and resources, accommodation, transport facilities and leisure opportunities. This information will be described and structured in a similar manner for all partipating countries. To ensure the reliability of the information, it will be provided directly by official tourist authorities. User needs oriented, the project will not only heighten enjoyment of tourism by individuals, but boost business among those who market it, including agencies, tour operators and hotels.
The main objective of MINTour is to promote the European tourism sector, providing to the potential or real user a homogeneus and reliable base of multimedia information about tourist areas and resources, public services and infrastructures, accomodation facilities, transport facilities, cultural issues, leisure and sport activities, etc. The information will be homogeneus, in the sense that the same type of tourist resources will be described in a similar way throughout all the participating countries. The information will be reliable, because it will be provided through the Administrations responsible in each country or region for the inventory of the tourist resources. The system is configured as a public service, without a commercial (business) orientation.
The user needs will be established in the first phase of the project, with the help of the User Organization involved. The needs will be determined not only from the knowledge about the information or services presently requested by the users, but also considering the massive amount of information already available at the Administrations and the technological possibilities commercially available at short or medium-term.
MINTour uses the concept of virtual database, integrating the common elements from the tourism databases of all National or Regional Administrations involved in the project. In this way, the Administrations will be able to continue the support of their existing tourist information systems, without a disruption in the services provided. However, any Administrations will also have the possibility to establish the MINTour Database as its real and operating database.
