Objective
GEMINI II has been a complete success opening field for further aero-acoustics investigations at transonic speed. The model was produced and accepted from safety and accuracy aspects. The powerplant demonstrated their performance and robustness. The tests were fully completed and the computational tools shown reliable to predict and understand the physics. The key-findings of this programme are:
- the validity of the model concept (full span transonic powered) using mutiple-bellows airbridges, air driven turbine power source, rotating shaft balance and carbon fiber propellers,
- the consistency of the experimental "thrust-drag" bookkeeping methodology used,
- the quality of the Euler solvers as global design tools and their limits in terms of accurate propeller performance and flow separation prediction,
- the possibility of achieving acceptable drag level with propeller driven aircraft at transonic speed.
