EXTENSIVE MANAGEMENT OF GRASSLAND, IMPACT ON CONSERVATION OF BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES AND FARM OUTPUT

Objectif

The objective is the increase and maintenance of biological resources, particularly plant diversity, on extensively managed grasslands.
The project will establish target values for the major nutrients in extensive grasslands, based on their availability in existing grasslands rich in wild life resources in a range of sites. Techniques for reducing nutrient availability on de-intensified farmland will be evaluated.

The impact on forage production, quality and farm output of extensive grassland management designed to enhance and maintain biological resources will be quantified. The socio-economic value of grassland diversity on the development of tourism in less favoured regions will be analysed.
