Objetivo The objective of the project is to produce an analytical assessment of the most important fished stocks on Flemish Cap: cod, American plaice, redfish and Greenland halibut. The analysis of target species is proposed, based on the following sources : a) Independent total catch estimates. b) Biological sampling of catches from national sampling programs. c) An annual survey on the bank. d) Population parameters, calculated for all target species. The results of the analytical model will provide estimates of annual recruitment and fishing mortality which define stock evolution since 1988. Stock age structures will also be available to produce catch projections. All these results are fundamental to understanding population dynamics and, also, for rational resources management. Flemish Cap is presently a valuable fishery. Results of the project will contribute to more rational resources management and, consequently, to maintain the economic activity of the EU fleet on the fishery, and to a more uniform supply of the EC market.
