DEVELOPMENT OF DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES FOR SHEEP PULMONARY ADENOMATOSIS AND RELATED DISEASES

Objective

The objective is the development of sensitive and accurate techniques for the diagnosis of pulmonary adenomatosis and nasal adenocarcinoma of sheep and goats, especially during the long incubation period.

Specific objectives are:

- Development of molecular and immunological reagents for small ruminant type D retroviruses.
- Determination of the genomic and antigenic variation in samll ruminant type D retroviruses in order to select reagents that discriminate between oxegenous and endogenous type D retroviruses.
- Development of techniques to detect exogenous type D retroviruses in infected animals or host responses to these viruses.
- Evaluation of new diagnostic procedures in experimentally-infected and naturally-infected sheep and goats.
